I am Kai Zhang.

A farmer’s son from “Tatooine.”

I am from a small town on the edge of the vast desert, located in Northwestern China, making it the most distant region from any ocean on Earth. Remote and tough, I call it the “Tatooine of China.”

I came to the US at age eighteen because I wanted to see the big and beautiful world, although I did not know much English or about the U.S.

I worked hard to graduate from college, and managed to find a job on Wall Street, more recently as a stock picker at Goldman Sachs. Stock investing is fun, but coming from a family of small businesses, I felt a strong gravitation toward entrepreneurship. So I attended graduate schools to learn and explore. I earned an MBA from Wharton and a Master’s in government from Harvard. During my time in graduate school, I ventured into various forms of entrepreneurship, including co-founding a stock investment fund and founding a meal delivery service.

After graduation, I founded Moonlight Street, a business entity with the sole purpose of buying and operating a small business. I am fortunate to have the backing from established investors, and I have a long holding period (potentially 10 years or longer).

From “Tatooine” to Boston, I could not have completed this long journey without the kindness and help I received along the way. My journey taught me the importance of being empathetic and kind. I recognize the impact that big decisions, such as exiting from your business, can have on you and your family. I will work hard to cater to your needs, and work together to craft a succession plan that best suits your vision and desires.


The Name is Moonlight Street.

The name, Moonlight Street, pays homage to my father — an entrepreneur who transformed himself from a farmer to a successful businessman.

When I was little, my father had just started his business; to save on rent, we lived in a tiny mud hut converted from a sheep pen. Many evenings, my father would be out collecting receivables from his customers. At night, my mother would tuck my sister and me into bed, but we would always get up and eagerly await my father's return from work, gazing out of the window at the small unnamed street bathed in moonlight.

Now, I am a father myself. I named my acquisition vehicle Moonlight Street as a tribute to my father's resilience and the entrepreneurial spirit that runs in my family.
